When I set up a still life, I never preconceive of the objects to use. I walk around the place the studio, or house, or wherever I happen to be, and keep my eyes open for items that stand out most.

The sun was shining brightly in Ireland the day I saw this white container resting on a white panel. Ah! A good opportunity to see what would happen with a white-on-white painting, with a dash or two of orange!

An empty vessel can be sweet – especially with a little sugar on the outside.
