One thing I’ve learned in hosting art shows is that for many people, walking into an art opening can be about as much fun as visiting the dentist: Fear and anxiety arousing! Several people have shared with me some of the thoughts that arise in their minds at an art event such as: ‘Who is this artist guy anyway? What the heck does this painting mean — if anything? Dare I ask? Wouldn’t that be a stupid thing to do since I’m at this opening? I’m here, so I’m supposed to know already, right?’ And worst of all, ‘What if I don’t like it?’ Sound familiar? So, I’ve decided to change all that by giving a very short and very informal talk at 6pm and then inviting you to ask any art questions you may have in mind. Really! That means all those wandering thoughts you may have had are now welcome to be addressed in a very relaxed atmosphere. So, if you’ve always wanted to ask, ‘Exactly what is that thing doing in there?’, you’re invited to do so. I’ll do my best to answer them as honestly as I can. Here are the show opening details for Looking Up. |
